CW TV Series Review: Sullivan’s Crossing
I won’t be reviewing all episodes of Sullivan’s Crossing, just capturing my impression of the series!
Movie Summary
Adapted from the New York Times bestselling novels by Robyn Carr, “Sullivan’s Crossing” follows the journey of Neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan, whose perfectly planned life is turned upside down after finding herself in unexpected legal trouble. Needing time to reflect, she temporarily leaves her life in Boston, taking refuge in her childhood home of Sullivan’s Crossing, a campground in picturesque Nova Scotia run by her estranged father, Sully. She must deal with her complicated present while navigating her painful past. Further complicating matters is a mysterious newcomer whose presence ultimately leads Maggie to question her carefully laid plans.

This was a new series that started on March 19, 2023. I love this series and wasn’t sure if there were going to be more seasons or not. I just found confirmation that there is a Season 2 coming, which airs on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
Movie Review
This drama, Sullivan’s Crossing, is based on a book series by the same author, Robyn Carr, as Virgin River. This show has 2 Seasons with a 3rd season coming in 2025.
Season 1
The first few minutes of the first season and episode are reminiscent of Grey’s Anatomy (another one of my favorite series), featuring a hectic moment in the ER with neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) analyzing a patient. After her chaotic shift, she attends an award ceremony to accept the Rising Neurosurgeon Award.
Everything seems to be going well for her…until it isn’t. During her speech, the police storm into the building to arrest Maggie and her boss, Dr. Bob Hollis (Bob Mann).
We’re not entirely sure why Maggie is arrested (at least not yet), but it seems that Dr. Hollis was doing something illegal behind her back. Although the charges are dropped, her career is in shambles.
To escape scrutiny and determine her next move, she returns to her hometown to stay with her estranged father, Harry “Sully” Sullivan (Scott Patterson), who lives on a picturesque campground called “Sullivan’s Crossing” in Nova Scotia. This is where the real story begins.
The premiere episode teases just enough information to leave us wanting more. Plus, it gives us all the same feels as Virgin River (which is another one of my favorites).
Season 2
The season begins with Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan) racing to the hospital after learning of the news of her Harry “Sully” Sullivan (Scott Patterson). At the receptionist’s desk, she meets Dr. Roth (Bill Carr), who escorts her to Sully’s room. Much to her surprise, Sully’s scans didn’t reveal any clots.
When Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray) later shows up at the hospital with flowers, it appears that some time has passed. Sully not only appears to be on the mend, but it’s suggested that his discharge date is quickly approaching. Maggie uses that as an excuse to avoid Cal.
Final Review
I have to say that I was surprised by how much I enjoyed watching this show. Yes, it starts slow, but it gets better as the series moves along. There are some pretty complex characters here with real issues.

If you’re obsessed with small-town charm series and enjoy a good romance, you will probably enjoy this series. Some other series I love are Virgin River, Firefly Lane, When Calls the Heart, Hart of Dixie, The Way Home, This Is Us, Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, The Good Doctor, ER, The O.C., and Sweet Magnolias.
Here are a few new series I haven’t seen yet that are on my list: Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D.
